Where Is Q Essenger History Stored In Windows 10

Facebook Messenger (commonly known as Messenger) is a messaging app and platform. Originally developed as Facebook Chat in 2008, the company revamped its messaging service in 2010, and subsequently released standalone iOS and Android apps in August 2011.

Facebook stores all messages sent and received in Facebook Chat even after you close the chat window to end a conversation with a friend, business contact or colleague. The social network groups the chat messages with the other text, email and instant messages between you and each of your contacts as conversations in the Facebook Messages application that you can access from any page while you're signed in to the service.

About Facebook Chat

The Facebook Chat feature allows friends to talk to each other in real time while both users are online. Clicking on a contact's name in the Facebook Chat sidebar while that person is online and available to chat initiates a conversation in a new window that appears in the bottom right of the screen. Facebook displays a green dot next to each online friend in the sidebar so you can tell who is available to chat. You can also send chat messages to offline or unavailable friends, but these appear as messages in each user's Facebook Messages inbox.

Chat Window Options

Closing or minimizing the Facebook Chat window after you've finished an online conversation or clicked through to another page doesn't delete the messages you exchanged with your contact. Selecting the 'Clear Window' option in the Facebook Chat window drop-down menu removes the conversation from the chat window, but this action doesn't permanently delete the chat messages. Instead, Facebook stores all old chat messages as conversations that you can access from the Facebook Messages application.

Access Stored Chat Messages

To access stored chat messages, click the speech bubble icon in the top menu while you're logged in to Facebook and then select 'See All' to launch the main Messages application on the default Inbox screen. Click the name of any friend to open the conversation history, including all messages sent and received via Facebook Chat. Scroll up to view older messages or use the search option in the conversation toolbar to find specific messages.

Delete Stored Chat Messages

Facebook stores your chat messages by default, but you don't have to keep them. You can delete messages permanently from the conversation history stored in Facebook Messages. Click the 'Actions' button in the conversation toolbar and then select 'Delete Messages' in the pull-down menu. Click to enable the check box beside each message you want to remove and click the 'Delete' button. You can also delete an entire conversation to remove all messages at once by clicking 'Actions' followed by 'Delete Conversation.' Bear in mind that deleting messages only removes them from your own inbox; any messages you've sent still appear in the recipients' inboxes unless that person chooses to delete them.
