  If you have any fond memories of roleplaying Vampire: The Masquerade or playing the Bloodlines game and want to read a high-quality, novel-length, dark, political Ventrue-centric thriller, this is definitely the story for you.

  When I go looking for fanfiction I am generally on the prowl for character pairings and romantic subplots to keep my attention. Let me stress that this writer is so skilled at getting readers invested in the characters and storyline that you will neither need nor miss 'em.

  It is easy to initially dismiss this fanfiction as yet another 'original character female Ventrue OC is paired with LaCroix' piece, but in my opinion this is vastly superior in quality of prose, dialogue and characterization. No detail and no bit player is spared scrutiny. Even side characters like V.V. and Damsel are momentarily essential to the plot and large as life. (Also, LaCroix is more like a twisted parent/boss to the protagonist than anything.)

  Furthermore, Serena Woeburne is not just another victim under the thrall of passion. She's a bureaucrat and a professional in the afterlife as she was in life. Cold and serious and prim and proper, Serena is stuck walking a political tightrope strung between a plethora of supernatural factions, and in the end, she's the only one she can trust.
