You can analyze their tactics to counter them with your own tactics. Your people will need food to live in your castle. So, You should prepare them places like farming fields.
If you make your castle a great place to live, Your population will get increased so fast. But if the people can’t find any food to continue their living, They will quit the castle. In that case, You can’t do anything to make the condition better.
